Canyon of Shame written by the author Faye Duncan is the second installment in “The Bungalow Heaven Mystery Series”. The main character of the story is Detective Peter McGinnis. His first lieutenant Savalas is also an interesting character.

Detective Peter is in the homicide division for the city of Pasadena. He is the main lead on a new case. A body was found in Eaton Canyon. The blonde who was in her forties was shot in the head and her body was dumped in Eaton Canyon. Peter lost his ex-wife Lauren in a car accident. His ex-wife’s lover Alfio Cordini could have some relationship with the case. Read this story to know who the woman whose body was found was.

This murder mystery kept me on the edge of my seat. Even though I haven’t read the first book in the series, I was able to read this book as a standalone. The cover photo of the book is nice and the title is suitable. I enjoyed every bit of this book. Looking forward to reading more books by the author.

“I’ll Draw an Iris on my Heart and send it to You” written by the author/poet Helene J Storm is an interesting read. It is a collection of poems. This book has political poetry and controversial views, emotional lyrics and life lesson literature.

A few of my favorite poems from the collection are: Independence, eternity, Remember, Sticky Note, etc.

“We are living the memories of our future selves. We just don’t understand yet why this moment is so memorable.”

The poem Remember is a reminder to all of us to make the most of our present so we can have good memories for the future.

These poems are written in a lucid language. Even if you are not an avid poetry reader, you would be able to understand these poems. One could relate themselves to a few poems like independence, eternity, etc. I enjoyed every bit of this book. It’s a short read that one could read in a single sitting.

The Mystic Lawfirm is a short novel written by the author Shyambala. The main character of the story is Radha Rane. She is a 25-year-old job hunter. After failing so many interviews, Radha was finally accepted by an afterlife law firm. She joins as a Junior Assistant Lawyer to Mr Sudama, a heavenly being.

The Law Firm deals with the afterlife cases. The souls that feel they have been poorly judged go to this law firm. After hearing the details of her case, Radha first thought that her ragging was going on. Read this story to find out more. Why has the law firm employed Radha?

This is a gripping story that one could read in a single sitting. The cover photo of the book could have been better. The title is suitable according to the story. The story is fast paced and one won’t be bored anytime while reading it. It was interesting to have Indian Mythological characters in the story. Go for this book. You will have a great time reading it.

Beyond the Sea penned by the author Nina Purtee is an adventurous read. The main character of the story is Annie Harrison. She got an opportunity to board her grandfather’s sailing vessel, the Porto Banus, in Marbella, Spain. While growing up, Annie’s desire to see the world, learn of its history and immerse herself in foreign cultures grew. Annie’s father has been away for two years and Annie feels bad to leave her mother alone behind. Now, she was determined to learn the whereabouts of her father so her mother could get on with her life.

Annie’s mother inspires her to rekindle her love for the sea and embrace the unknown. It was interesting to see Annie traveling to Marbella, Thailand, Bali, Morocco, etc and meeting different people. Annie got to know from her mother that her father’s life as a British diplomat has been a dangerous one. Will Annie find her father?

Those who love reading stories involving adventures, travel, experiencing different cultures, romance, etc should read this book. The story is full of twists and turns and it kept me on the edge of my seat. The narration is so smooth that I felt as if I was with Annie on her adventures. I loved the way Annie journals her thoughts. It’s a must read book.

The Dyer Island Boys written by the author Jeffrey Veatch is based on a true story. The story features a fifteen-year-old boy named Johnny Miller who lost his father a year ago. Since then, Johnny has rebelled against everything. A New York City psychiatrist Dr. Peter Gallagher recommended his mother to send Johnny to summer camp at Dyer Island, Maine.

At the camp, Johnny doesn’t participate in the activities. Johnny was called to Dr. Walter Wickson’s cabin. Dr Wick introduced Dr Harold Thompson aka Harry to Johnny. Harry was one of the camp boys. At the age of fifteen, he was struggling after losing his father in a war. Read this story to know how Harry’s life was changed via the summer camp. Will Harry’s story have a positive impact on Jimmy?

I loved reading this story. I am glad to get my hands on this book. The writing style of the author is nice and the title of the book is suitable. I like to recommend this book to adolescent boys. It would be amazing to have such a camp at more and more places. Such an uplifting story!

“A Haven Amidst Perdition” written by Sidra Owens is a fantastic story. Eve is a mixed race girl and a teenager. Her mother Mae Evelyn works at cleaning the courthouse and Eve’s step-father Bear beats her sometimes. With time Bear’s attitude towards Eve changed for the good. Eve was made to take care of cooking, cleaning the house and taking care of the animals.

Eve knew that her father was a white man. As she grows up, she is becoming a beautiful woman and the Preacher, Judge Latham, etc already had their eyes on her. One day, Eve got a chance to run from her abusive home. Will her life be better in the outer world? Read this book yourself to know what will happen to Eve?

I enjoyed every bit of this book and couldn’t put it down. The plot of the story is interesting. The characters are written well. The narration is smooth and strong. This story will stay in my mind for a long time. The story involves abuse, domestic violence, sexual scenes, etc. The backdrop setting is amazing. I like to recommend this book to adult readers.

“Where Destiny Decides: Truth Revealed” by the author Jessie McDonald is an interesting read. Prince Alaric is the son of the royal family. He has no interest in living a royal life. He prefers to live a simple life where he works hard and lives free of the chains and bondage of family duty and
obligation.

Alaric has abdicated the throne to his brother Drustan. Drustan has two announcements for the people of Avalaria. First is Alaric’s engagement to Countess Athelyna. The second announcement is about the unholy war against elves.

The world and its magic are dying. Alaric’s family is ready to pay any cost to save it. What will happen when Alaric’s father tells him that there was a reason the language of ancestors was taught to him. Alaric’s father feels Drustan is a figurehead and would destroy the entire world. Read this story to know what responsibilities Alaric would have to take care of and what truth be exposed to him?

The story is gripping and one would enjoy binge reading this book. The narration is smooth and readers would be able to follow the story easily. I enjoyed every bit of this book. Jessie has done great work in her debut novel. Those who love reading fantasy fiction should definitely get their hands on this book.

From Doctor to Guinea-Pig is an intriguing story written by the author Angelique D. The story is told from the perspective of Alex’s wife. Alex is the main character of the story. He was 44, a young doctor who died from AIDS.

When Alex was young, he found love. His wife and he married in spite of many troubles. Alex’s wife has always appreciated his kindness and big heart. Alex knew at a young age that his dream is to be a doctor. Alex’s wife felt proud when people used to say that they haven’t seen a doctor like him. Alex selflessly cared for his patients for free. He contracted AIDS and offered his body to AIDS researchers so a cure can be found and other lives could be saved. Alex’s generosity is something everyone appreciates.

Even though deadly snakes were there in Africa, Alex never stepped back from his goal of serving people. In spite of the danger involved, he kept on serving people. He was loved by many for his great humor. I couldn’t imagine how difficult it has been for Alex’s wife to bear the loss of such a kind husband. The attention and respect Alex gave to every patient is truly admirable. I wish today’s doctors were like Alex whose goal should be serving people instead of just making more money.

If you love reading stories about life, faith, one’s approach to death then get your hands on this book. This book is the author’s way of dealing with a loss. We all find different ways to cope with tragedies. If you have experienced a loss, get your hands on this book. This story will take you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I appreciate the author’s choice of title for this book. It’s a great read.

Solo parenting, mental health challenges, and self-care is not that easy.

Read this book to know how to restore your peace after losing a loved one. Those who have lost their loved ones and feel abandoned should definitely read this book. Return to Autumn penned by the author Rusty Blackwood is a captivating story that hooked my attention from the first page itself. The story is set in the Meadows of Kentucky.

Cyril and Autumn had experienced a mutual attraction to each other the first time they saw each other. After the death of Cyril’s wife, Autumn and Cyril got married and are now parents of their young kids. Cyril’s friend Agnes is a housekeeper and always there for him.

William Brown and Manfred Montgomery knew that Duff was keeping their master in the dark. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any solid proof against him. To express their concern to Cyril, they need proof. Read this story to know more about Duff’s secret.

The chemistry between Autumn and Cyril is amazing. I loved their relationship. It would be amazing to see this story in the form of a movie. I strongly recommend this book to my fellow readers. The narration is smooth and strong. Readers would love every bit of this book. I appreciate the writing style of the author that makes it easy for readers to follow the story.
