“Harvest of Shadows” written by the author David Philip is a murder mystery. The main character of the story is Sebastian. He had been in the police for eight years and was thinking about leaving his job. His current role and location wasn’t challenging him much.

Recently, he was assigned a case regarding the dead body that was found in the field on the Ripley farm. He visited the crime scene with his colleague PC Melissa Warner. Mr Ripley mentioned that he had already spoken to colleagues before he was interviewed by Sebastian and Melissa. Sebastian found this weird as there are no logs or notes yet. Read this story to know what the detectives will uncover with their investigation.

The writing style of the author is nice. The storyline is intriguing and the cover photo is nice. The language used in the book is easy to follow. The author has done great work in this book. It took me some time to remember all the characters but as I turned page after page, I was able to link them. Those who enjoy mystery and stories with many characters should get their hands on this book.

The Islander is the second book written by the author David W. Berner that I have read. The main character of the story is Seamus Damp. Seamus wanted to spend his last days on an island with his dog Olivia. He didn’t want any connection with the outside world that’s why he even refused to keep the cell phone with him when he stayed on the island for the first time.

When Seamus’ son Aiden visited him to check on him, he found Seamus on the floor. After being hospitalized, doctors advised Seamus to not stay alone at the island. But Seamus returned to the island again. There, he met a woman named Maddie. Because of the bad weather, she once spent a night at his place. Read this story to find out what will happen in Seamus’ life further.

The story is gripping. The book is unputdownable and I loved the character of Seamus and Aiden. The pace of the story is fine and I wasn’t bored anytime while reading this book. The author’s writing style is amazing and would captivate the reader’s attention till the last page.

Interview with author Debra Ford

Q1. Hello, can you please introduce yourself? Readers would love to know more about you.

A1. In my life, I am a doting grandma to Emilia, Isla and Audrey and this book was written for them. In my work I am a teacher and one of the world’s foremost experts in metaphysical energy.

Back in 1990 my husband John and I made the heart-wrenching decision to leave our family and home in South Africa and emigrate to Canada. Our boys, Joel and Adam were six and four at the time. We followed the life truth that we couldn’t look back and threw ourselves into Canadian life with vigour. Being an immigrant is a unique experience with its own challenges and heartaches, as well as its daily victories. Through all the years of loneliness and being away from family, we kept our eye on the prize, which was giving our sons a safe and nurturing environment to grow up in.

This book brings to life and introduces a little part of South Africa to my granddaughters. This is our family heritage. Their fathers are 5th generation Africans and these girls have a little of the African bush that resides in their psyche.

Q2. What were the key challenges you faced while writing your book “The Curious Cousins and the African Elephant Expedition”?

A2. The hardest part was choosing what to keep in the book, and what to save for the next one. I have now completed the manuscript for the second book in the series “The Curious Cousins and the African Unicorn Expedition” and this will be launched this year.

Q3. What books or authors have most influenced your own writing?

A3. I am the author of more than 20 spiritual books. My favourite children’s book authors are Roberts Munsch and Dr. Seuss.

Q4. What’s your favourite spot to visit in your own country? And what makes it so special to you?

A4. I feel that I do live in paradise, on the prairies in Western Canada, within an hours drive from the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Home is my favourite spot.

Q5. What inspired you to write the book ‘The Curious Cousins and the African Elephant Expedition’?

A5. Two things, I wanted to introduce some of the principels of being a spiritual person to my girls, in a fun fictional setting. Things like dreaming, intentions, collaborating, connecting to the plants, animals and each other. I also wanted to remind these little Canadian girls that Africa is a big part of their heritage and who they are.

Q6. How long did it take you to write your book ‘The Curious Cousins and the African Elephant Expedition’?

A6. As with all of my books, both spiritual and children’s, once I get the idea, and get writing – it flows out easily and quickly. This book The Curious Cousins and the African Elephant Expedition took about 2 months to complete the manuscript.

A7. Amazon and Ingram Spark for the printed and ebooks. Amazon ACX and most other places where you get your podcasts, for the audiobook.

Q8. Tell us about the process of coming up with the book cover and the title ‘The Curious Cousins and the African Elephant Expedition’?

A8. This book is about Emilia Rose, Isla Mae and Audrey Jane making a trip to the African bush in their dreams, to learn more about the animals. They are three cousins, who are inherently curious and the elephant was the target of their expedition.

Q9. When writing a book how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

A9. I allow myself to dream, to go wild, to write, write, write. Only in my re-read, do I allow myself to do any correcting and editing. I keep a notebook next to my bed for my overnight inspirations.

Q10. What is the most valuable piece of advice you’ve been given about writing?

A10. Don’t edit too early on in the process. Stay centred, its your idea, go with it.

“The Little Curry Leaf Tree” is an interesting read penned by the author Moriah Sam. The story is set in India. The little curry leaf tree is the center of the story. One day, the little curry leaf tree noticed that Appachan and Ammachi weren’t happy.

All the plants decided to come up with a plan to make Appachan and Ammachi happy. The mango tree gave its mangoes to the couple to make them happy. The neem tree provided shade to the couple but still they weren’t happier. Read this book to find out what can make Appachan and Ammachi happy.

The story is interesting. The illustrations are beautiful and kids would be delighted to read this book. The language used in the book is lucid and kids would be able to follow it easily. I had a great time reading this book. This book would make the children realize the importance of family and friends in one’s life.

Joseph Seechack’s “A Love to Die For” is an intriguing read. It hooked my attention from the first page itself. Grace and Ron Butler had a perfect marriage. They were blessed with fraternal twins. After years of marriage, Grace and Ron felt that they could enjoy each other fully but God had something else in his plan.

One day when Grace returned home, it was empty. She couldn’t find her husband Ron and cat Moonbeam. In a small town like Big Sur, they can report the missing person without waiting. When Ron was found, Deputy Weber informed Grace that he was dead. Everyone in the town thought Ron was crazy or on some drugs to enter a drainpipe. Grace learned the truth about the cause of Ron’s death and was surrounded by grief. She has lost her love without even getting a chance to say goodbye.

Read this story to know how Grace would deal with her grief. The author has done great work in this book. The cover photo is designed well. The title of the book is suitable. The characters of Ron and Grace are immediately likable. This book took me on the rollercoaster ride of emotions. I am looking forward to reading more books by the author in the future.

An American Abduction written by the author James A Johnson is an interesting thriller that has aliens, UFOs, abduction, etc. The story features a newly married couple Matt Riley and Tangie Turner. Matt’s mother Abigail was a good Christian. She died of breast cancer when he was five years old.

Matt doesn’t like the cold weather in the eastern seaboard. He wanted to live in the southwest or western part of the country. One day, the couple got the offer to work for Global Observation Defense, or G.O.D. and that sounded like their dream job. Tangie believes in the existence of aliens but Matt doesn’t believe in it or God. Read this story to know what would happen when they would be abducted.

The plot of the story is full of twists. It kept me on the edge of my seat. The language used in the book is lucid and I had a great time reading this book. The title of the book is suitable according to the contents of the book.

It would be amazing to watch a movie based on this story one day.

Eternal Tides written by the author Marc Bright is an adventurous story that is full of twists and turns. Kate Lawrence is a Youtuber who is traveling from her home in Santa Barbara to Somerset Village, Bermuda. She has a keen eye for history and she was invited to showcase the recovery of the lost treasure of the infamous pirate, Blackbeard.

Ethan Forde is the main character of the story. Once he found the diary of Robert Maynard that had the account of his pursuit of the infamous pirate. He found out that the Fountain of Youth might be hidden in Venezuela. Marcus “Mac” McAlister is Ethan’s trusted friend. When Dax Santosa found out that his boat was missing, he captured the boat on which Ethan and Kate were. With the timely help from Mac, Kate and Ethan were rescued from danger.

Kate feels Ethan always finds trouble. Ethan and Mac abandoned Kate in Bermuda as they felt she would post the secrets on YouTube but Kate was also determined to uncover the secrets about the Blackbeard’s long-lost treasure. She is excited for this once in a lifetime opportunity to find the treasure. Read this story to know what adventures Kate, Ethan and Mac have on their journey.

The writing style of the author is nice. The title of the book is suitable. The pace of the story is fine. Since there is so much history and adventure in this book, I loved every bit of it. The language used in the book is for avid readers. The storyline is intriguing and I am delighted to read this book.

“Daylight Saving Time: The Power of Growing Older” written by the author David W. Berner is the best book that I have read at the beginning of this year. This is a kinda instruction book on the art of growing older.

In this memoir, the author has mentioned time as a man-made concept. The way the clocks are adjusted for Daylight Savings Time made him think about that. He wonders about his aunt who has outlived his parents and sister. His aunt always giggles and even at the age of eighty two, she has the heart of a young woman. It is inspiring to see David with so many plans like meeting his step son, elder son, etc.

The bond between the author and his wife would inspire the couples to cherish each other even in the old days. The author walks down the memory lane at a few points in this book and he knows that he has less number of days in the future as compared to the number of days he has lived.

For young readers, this book is a reminder to live our life in the present. It reminds us to enjoy each day. For old people, this book inspires them to find joy in the time that is left. This book has touched my heart. I truly loved the author’s writing style.
