Book Review: What’s Left Unsaid

Book: What’s Left Unsaid

Author: Deborah Stone

Publisher: Matador

Format: Ebook

My Rating: 4.5/5

What’s Left Unsaid is the debut novel of the author Deborah Stone. It’s a family drama fiction. The main characters are Joe, Annie, Sasha and Zac.

The book is narrated by three characters: Joe, Sasha and Annie. Zac is a teenager and son of Sasha and Jeremy. Sasha’s mother Annie has a drinking problem and her father Joe Stein was well known and a bone fied celebrity.

Mother daughter relationship between Annie and Sasha is not so simple. It has the complexity of deep secrets and lies which makes the story interesting.

Every family has some drama and the story of Stein’s family seemed so realistic to me and I could relate well to it. I always love to read about family dramas even though they make me emotional many times while reading.

It was the first book by Deborah but the writing seems so polished and the story narration is amazing. I really liked this book. It was a long read but the plot was so gripping that I binge read it and finished it in two sittings. It’s a must read.

Interview with Author Brandon Clarke

1. Please introduce yourself so that the readers will get to know you better.

My name is Brandon Clarke and I am the author of the “Dark Mysteries of the Paranormal” series. I live in the United States of America, and I really enjoy writing, being creative and I also cosplay.

2. When did you first realize you wanted to be an author?

I first realized I wanted to be an author when I knew I had a story to tell. Doing cosplay I would often invent original characters that came from the imagination of my mind. I would create a back story for them. One day when I was reading a steven king novel it clicked in my head that I wanted to tell my own story and create a novel and since then I have had a blast doing so..

3. From where did you have the idea/inspiration to write “Dark Mysteries of the Paranormal Saga”? Do you believe in ghosts?

I got the ideas from when  I cosplay and since childhood I have always been a big fan of the horror and supernatural genre. I loved Freddy, Jason, Michael Myers, ghost face and shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Ghost whisperer. Also yes I do believe in ghost. There is definitely forces beyond this world that we don’t really know much about and so I absolutely believe in ghost.

4. What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

When I am not writing I am hanging out with friends, I love going to the movies, going out to eat and love cosplaying.

5. What is the most difficult part of your journey as an author?

The most difficult part of my journey is since I am an independent author everything falls on my shoulders. Creating advertisements so that my books can be seen is a lot of money and work. Its sometimes discouraging when you feel like your not moving forward as an author because no one is buying your books. I try to keep a positive mindset and believe that this will pan out for me and I will get to enjoy the fruits of my labor.

6. What is your favorite Quote?

“Never invest in someone who doesn’t have as much to lose as you do.”

7. What are you working on next? Are you planning to release another book soon?

Yes I am currently working on my third novel called “The Rainbow Dimension”  Its the third installment of “Dark Mysteries of the Paranormal” I want to say I can have it released in the next month or so. But I don’t want to rush because there is no need for rushing. I have the option of taking my time with it and adding things to the story to making it better. But the book has been finished its just needs a little extra care. I also finished the fourth installment of the series called Atlas and his Amazing Wonders. I have been working on both and will try to get it done before the end of the year.

8. What do you hope your readers take away from your books?

I hope they love the characters, I hope they can see that stories can be told from different narratives and perspectives. As a member of the Black LGBTQ community I feel like our perspective in never shown as often and I want to prove that you can have a gay character as the focus of the story and the story can still be amazing and riveting. We don’t have enough characters of color and part of the LGBTQ community who are witches or mermaids or werewolves. I mean have shows like chilling adventures of sabrina where the character ambrose is not only black like me but he is also bisexual. I love that. I feel like we need more characters that show different walks of life. And that is what I am going to strive for in all of my books. Diversity and representation for the ones who are left in the shadows.

9. Do you read or write daily?

I don’t necessarily read daily. The last book  I read was Stephen kings “The outsider” I really enjoyed that book and the tv series. I write most days because I am writing a ten book series. So that keeps me pretty busy.

10. Lastly, do you want to give any advice to readers and aspiring writers?

I think the only advice I can think of is write what you are passionate about. There is an audience for everything and when you write about things that spark your flame the writing comes out better and you just have fun doing it .

The Ghost of Kyle Sugarbaker is the Book 2 in Dark Mysteries of the Paranormal Saga. The story is set in Salem. The story has two different timelines. The present one in which Zane Gardener is the protagonist and the second timeline runs in the Spring of 1997 in which the protagonist was Kyle Sugarbaker.

The brave and the wicked is the first book by the author Brandon Clarke that I’ve read. This is Volume 1 in the “Dark mysteries of the paranormal Saga“. This is the story about a powerful and confident witch Jennifer(who was battling with cancer) and her daughter Jade. During her last days, Jennifer told her daughter about an ancient box that needs to be protected after her and she especially mentioned that don’t let it be in the hands of uncle Fred.

Jade Summers, the daughter of Jennifer has no parent now. Her boyfriend Grayson support her in her journey. Her uncle Fred was a very rich man but his intentions weren’t that good. He had a fight with Jennifer over an ancient box earlier. What is there in the ancient box? What was Fred’s intention’s behind getting this box.

This book is full of paranormal elements. The story got quite interesting when Jade got to know that she is a witch. The twists and turns in the story will keep you hooked. It is really an interesting story that kept me going till the end. The plot of the story is built nicely. I am gonna read the sequel of this now as I couldn’t wait at all.

Book Review: Once There Was Me

• Book: Once There Was Me
• Author: Bobby Sachdeva
• Format: Paperback
• Pages: 427

Once There Was Me is a book by the author and story teller Bobby Sachdeva. In this book, we get to know about the painful past when lots of people got penniless and homeless due to India-Pakistan partition. People had to abandon everything and move to their respective countries based on their religion.

Another tragic incident happened in 1984 when our former Prime Minister Mrs Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her Sikh guards. In Delhi, the bloodthirsty mob started knocking every Sikh house’s door to kill Sikhs or burn them alive. Bobby and his family survived this incident luckily.

Later Bobby went to America and China to earn money but all went in vain. He even started questioning the role of religion in our lives. Read this story that is a personal experience of the author itself.

The book is written well with a lucid language. The narration is clear and smooth. I would recommend this book to everyone to read it atleast once to enrich your knowledge about our country history.

Rhythm Roger by Himanshu Rai

Book: Rhythm Roger

Author: Himanshu Rai

My Rating: 5/5

Genre: Fantasy

Publisher: Invincible Publishers

Rhythm Roger is the first book that I have read written by the author Himanshu Rai. He had written other books as well earlier but being a fantasy lover, this one caught my attention.

The story features Rhythm who is an engineer in the human world. But in the Virtual World known as the Electon World, he is the son of a queen Alagon. This Electon World was created by Heinrich Rudolf Hertz when he discovered electromagnetic waves. It cannot be seen or felt by humans.

In the world of Electon, there is so much to discover by Rhythm and so by us along with his journey. I really appreciate the vivid imagination of Himanshu to create the Electon World. The story is intriguing and that makes it an unputdownable book.

Cover of the book is eye catchy and the title is apt. I was really enthralled to read this book. I am gonna read more work by the author.

Book Review: Flying by the seat of my pants

Book: Flying by the seat of my pants

Author: Hannah Corbin

Format: Kindle

Length: 240 pages

My Rating: 4/5

Do you love reading autobiography? If yes, you should pick this one.

This is the first time that I have read memoir. The journey of Hannah was not smooth. It was full of good and bad experiences. Some incidents will break your heart while reading. On the other hand, some incidents are so funny that you couldn’t stop laughing.

I really admire the author to share her struggles with all of us. Inspite of going through so much things, at the end she did quite well.

My favourite line from the book is:
“You never know what you’ve got until it’s gone”.

When I started reading this book, I couldn’t put it down. I finished it in a single sitting. The writing style is admirable and I am enthralled to read this.
