“Heartland Retribution” penned by the author Michael Williams is a gripping read. The story features a CIA Agent Sophia Evans. Sophia and her team have been chasing Senator Roy Stone. Sophia failed to get her hands on the Senator during the shootout in Washington D.C.

Stone somehow manages to stay ahead of her. Sophia suspects a leak in a team but the team was handpicked by herself or Owens. For the fourth time the former Senator had struck them out. When Sophia received news about Stone and Hasan (one of the most wanted terrorists), she wanted to get both simultaneously. Stone is holed up in Tangier, and Hasan is in Sanaโ€™a. They seek help of Mike’s team so half of the team could go after Stone and the other half after Hasan Althani. Read this book to find out if Sophia’s team received the correct information or was it a false one.

The writing style of the author is nice. The cover photo is well designed. The tension was high throughout the plot as I kept wondering what will happen next. The storyline is gripping. It’s a fast paced read and you won’t be bored anytime while reading it. Go ahead with this without any second thoughts.

“NENU the Magical Wizard” by Kellie Madison is a delightful children’s book that captures the imagination. The story centers around an eight-year-old boy named Jerry Wheeler. While playing, Jerry was on a streak of strikes, which left his Grandpa Craig disappointed, as he had been cheering Jerry on.

Later, while fielding, Jerry hoped to redeem himself by catching the ball if it came his way. He believed that one good catch could make everyone proud of him. But when the opportunity came, Jerry missed the catchโ€”and instead, he discovered a magical wizard named Nenu trapped under a log.

What follows is a magical journey as Jerry meets Nenu. How will this encounter change his life? Youโ€™ll have to read the book to find out.

This is a heartwarming and imaginative tale. It made me wish I had a friend like Nenu in my own life. The cover is visually appealing, and the title fits the story perfectly. I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and had a great time reading it. Iโ€™m definitely looking forward to exploring more books by Kellie Madison.

“Accidental Ukrainians: Part Two โ€“ February 2023 to February 2024: Missile Mania” by John and Natasha Sennett offers a compelling and eye-opening account. The book chronicles the experiences of two American citizens living in Kyiv and Chernivtsi during an intense year of war and uncertainty.

The authors describe The Battle of Kyiv as their first true testโ€”one they faced with unshaken faith. Once the battle subsided, autumn arrived, and with it came a new wave of terror: relentless missile strikes. Power and internet outages became the norm, forcing them to leave Kyivโ€”though they remained in Ukraine.

On October 24, 2022, the couple relocated to Chernivtsi so that one could continue working while the other pursued prerequisite courses for a masterโ€™s program at a U.S. university. After four months, they returned to Kyiv. The authors have mentioned about acceptance of death. That way, they started living more. Natasha also reflects on her teaching career so a job would keep her productive.

If you’re looking for a firsthand account of how missile and drone attacks escalated in Kyiv, this book is for you. I canโ€™t begin to imagine what it was like in their shoes, but I deeply admire their courage and resilience. I look forward to reading more from the Sennetts. Definitely add this book to your TBR!

“A Tale of Dreams and Demons” by Elizabeth Hernandez is a captivating Teen & Young Adult Coming-of-Age fantasy. The story follows a curious and imaginative teen named Melosia, who finds her ordinary life dull. She dreams of magic being real and longs for an epic adventure like the ones she watches with her sister, Alma.

On a recent family camping trip, Mel is suddenly attacked by a monsterโ€”only to be rescued just in time by her Uncle Lupus. However, her mother is wary of Lupus and doesnโ€™t want him near her daughters. Later, Mel learns from her uncle that they share a special heritage, one that sets them apart from her mother and sister. One night, Uncle Lupus takes Mel into another world. What awaits her there? Will she find new friends? How will she adjust to this strange, magical place?

This book reminded me of the Harry Potter series. I truly enjoyed reading it. The storyline kept me hooked from the very first page, and I couldn’t put it down. The pacing was perfect, and the characters have definitely left a lasting impression on me. Elizabeth Hernandez has crafted a truly enchanting tale.

โ€œTrennen: The Southern Warโ€ by M.C. Bradley is a compelling and well-crafted story that draws you in from the very first page. At its center is Princess Sophia, a sharp-tongued and intelligent woman from Rike, the capital of the powerful kingdom of Rosmariaโ€”known to be superior in every way to its neighboring lands, Madotia and Nosmad.

In a bid to prevent Madotia from falling into the hands of barbarians, Princess Sophia journeys there as an advisor, tasked with helping strategize a defense. During her time in Madotia, she meets Prince Koa, who insists she learn to defend herselfโ€”a notion Sophia initially rejects. She relies entirely on her royal guard, Dame Lilith, for protection and firmly believes that war is no place for women.

However, as she and Prince Koa spend more time together, a deeper connection begins to form. Will this bond grow into something more? And how will Sophia influence the fate of Madotia?

This book stands out for its well-developed charactersโ€”I especially loved Sophia and Koaโ€”and its fast-paced, engaging plot. There isnโ€™t a single dull moment. The cover design is eye-catching, and M.C. Bradleyโ€™s writing is captivating from start to finish. Iโ€™m thrilled to have picked up this latest release and eagerly look forward to reading more from the author.

๐Ÿš€ ๐‘๐ž๐ฏ๐ข๐ž๐ฐ:
“Farewell to Old England Forever” by Doug Limbrick is a compelling and insightful read. The author vividly captures the experiences of those who left their homeland to journey by sea as emigrants to the Australian colonies.

In 1844 and early 1845, more than 4,000 immigrants arrived in the colonies under new bounty schemes. One of the most effective ways of encouraging emigration was through personal letters and support from family and friends who had already made the move.

By 1888, Australia had seen a century of migration and settlement. Despite the greater distance, higher costs, and challenges compared to North America, many still chose the Australian colonies as their destination.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Doug Limbrickโ€™s extensive research is evident throughout. The inclusion of photographs enriched the narrative and helped me connect more deeply with the subject. His writing style is engaging and accessible, and the cover design is striking. The book gave me a deeper understanding of the various government migration schemes of the time.

Interview with author William Tirre

Q1. Hello, can you please introduce yourself? Readers would love to know more about you.

A1. My name is William Tirre, but my friends and family call me Bill. I am an applied research psychologist who recently retired from the federal government after seventeen years with the Air Force in San Antonio, Texas and nineteen years with the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, DC. Today I am a self-published author of novels and other fiction. I can honestly say that writing stories is a lot more entertaining than writing dry research reports!

In 1983 I married the love of my life, and we are now empty nesters because our three adult sons are pursuing their own careers and living separately.  My oldest son, Matthew, is a trained illustrator who created all the wonderful pictures in Spunky and Leonard.

When I am not writing I read a lot of books, both fiction and non-fiction. I especially like historical fiction, Westerns, science fiction, and mystery/suspense. And I start each day with a Bible reading. In addition, I like to play contemporary Christian music and compose songs on my guitar. For exercise I play pickleball and basketball

Q2. What were the key challenges you faced while writing your book “The Adventures of Spunky and Leonard”?

A2. Honestly, I did not have any special challenges in writing Spunky and Leonard. I just tried to remember what kinds of adventures I would have liked to have had as a boy and then I let my imagination take control. It was a different situation for my historical fiction novels. To develop these stories, I had to do some research to make the story authentic with respect to the beliefs, customs, and language of people in the time period I had set the story in.

Q3. What books or authors have most influenced your own writing?

A3. For Western novels my favorite authors are Elmer Kelton and Louis L’Amour. They have influenced my writing, but I would not say I deliberately tried to imitate them. These authors made the Old West come alive for me.  I really enjoy reading history and trying to understand the opinions and perspectives of people living in various points in history. Some of my favorite authors in this category are Diana Gabaldon (Outlander) and Margaret Mitchell (Gone with the Wind). Margaret Mitchellโ€™s one book was a masterpiece that captured the zeitgeist of the Civil War and Reconstruction period in the old South. She had intimate knowledge of the South and conveyed it expertly in her novel.

Q4. Whatโ€™s your favourite spot to visit in your own country? And what makes it so special to you?

A4. My favorite place to visit in the U.S. is the St. Louis Arch. In the early 1960s I could see it under construction from my parentsโ€™ neighborhood in St. Louis. It is still quite a thrill to stand at the base of this monument and look up to its zenith at 630 feet.

Q5. What inspired you to write the book ‘Love Lost and then Found in the Civil War’?

A5. I wanted to show how a person who suffers a romantic loss can be restored and fulfilled through finding a new love possibly deeper than the one lost. When one door is closed shut another door opens. The idea of a closed door leading to another opportunity encourages believers to trust in God’s plan, even when facing disappointment or setbacks. The main character in this story, a seminary graduate named Simon, lives out his faith by refusing to join the Confederate army and defend slavery, and by mentoring a young man, Josiah, who is escaping slavery. Simonโ€™s deep faith sustains him through various trials.

Q6. How long did it take you to write your book ‘The Rescue of Minnie Engel’?

A6.  The Rescue of Minnie Engel was my first novel and naturally it took more time to write. And keep in mind that I was still a full-time employee of the Department of Education and so I could work on the novel only in evenings and on weekends. I submitted the first version of the book to a publisher in 2019. After I received some reviews, I revised the book and submitted it to a new publisher in late 2023. Thus, I was working on this book from 2018 to 2023.

Q7. On what platforms can readers buy your books?

A7. In addition to Amazon and Barnes and Noble, my eBooksย are available at all the major sellers of eBooks.

Q8. Tell us about the process of coming up with the book cover and the title ‘The Hand of the Ojibwa Maiden’?

A8. The title The Hand of the Ojibwa Maiden comes from the old-fashioned idea of winning the hand of a young woman in marriage. The story is set during the Sioux Rebellion of 1862 when war parties spread through southwestern Minnesota setting fire to fields, homes, and barns of white farmers. Robert Perault meets Little Fox at the Sioux village and the two teens fall in love. But the chiefโ€™s son wants Little Fox for himself.

The cover is intended to show the two young lovers embracing each other with a orange sky from the burning farms as a background.

Q9. When writing a book how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

A9. This is a hard question because I have found that when I am writing a story the characters come alive for me and it seems that they are telling me their story. So, it is not the case that I must deliberately  try to keep the story fresh, the story is unfolding for me through the thoughts and actions of my characters who seem to have become alive, at least in my mind.

Q10. What is the most valuable piece of advice youโ€™ve been given about writing?

A10. I think it is that the writer should engage the readerโ€™s interest at the very beginning of the book. If the book does not capture their interest from the very start, readers might not continue to stay with the book.

The Puppet by M.C. Bradley is a Teen & Young Adult fiction novel centered around a puppet named Marionette. She was created by the cruel Master Mary, who forced her to perform despite her foot being damaged from practice the previous day. When the performance fell apart because of this, Master Mary lashed out at Marionette, calling her useless and saying unkind things.

One day, Marionette overheard Master Mary planning to sell her. Determined to escape, she fled and soon crossed paths with an elderly woman named Ruth. Ruth offered Marionette a job, but things didnโ€™t go smoothly at firstโ€”Marionette made several mistakes and feared she would be punished. However, Ruth proved to be kind and understanding, encouraging Marionette to learn from her failures and view life from a different perspective.

Marionetteโ€™s journey of healing made this book a truly enjoyable read. The story felt fresh and original. This was my first time reading a book by M.C. Bradley, and I was thoroughly impressed by her writing. The narrative was so immersive, I felt as though I was right there with Marionette, experiencing everything alongside her.

Accidental Ukrainians offer a powerful glimpse into the Russo-Ukrainian war through the eyes of American civilians who were living in Ukraine when the full-scale invasion began. This is the first book in a series, and it gripped me from the very first page.

John and Natasha Sennett share their personal journeyโ€”how they initially planned to settle in Belarus and even bought a house there. However, due to the political conditions of Belarus, they decided to move to Kyiv, Ukraine, which was just a six-hour drive away. When Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine, the couple made the bold decision to remain in Kyiv.

As the war unfolded, Kyiv quickly transformed into a ghost town. For the first time, the authors experienced life in a city emptied of people. Hospitals, cafes, clinics, and businesses shut down. Their beloved dog Sammi passed away from cancer shortly after the Battle of Kyiv. Embassies were evacuating, and foreigners were fleeing the country. The memoir includes personal letters, including one John wrote on the evening of the full-scale invasion. Read this book to find out will they eventually leave Kyiv?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It captures moments of joy and heartbreak, and some passages are truly chilling. The authors opened my eyes to what itโ€™s like to live in a country under invasion. I felt a deeper emotional connection to this book than anything Iโ€™ve seen on the news about the Russo-Ukrainian War.
