I love reading memoirs. Recently I got my hands on Olivia DeBortoli’s book “The Articulate Autistic”. In this book, Olivia who is a late-diagnosed autistic female has shared her life story. The book starts with Olivia at the therapist’s office. The therapist’s questions took Olivia back to the old days when she was abused by her uncle.

Olivia has shared how from the age of eighteen to twenty-nine, she had been hospitalized almost forty times. The author has shared her experiences from the first visit to the psychiatric emergency room. The way the hospital ward makes patients fully undress and asks them to give pee samples in front of them makes the patients uncomfortable.

One day, Olivia realized that she wanted to be normal and fix her life. She tried different things but ended up in hospital after every attempt. Olivia’s story inspires the readers to be happy. We should seek happiness only in life. The journey of self-discovery is a lifelong adventure. Readers should definitely read this well written book as they would be inspired to be more self-aware.
