“The Lacquered Talisman: A novel of 14th century China” is the debut novel of the author Laurie Dennis. This book revolves around the life of Zhu Yuanzhang aka Fortune. Zhu’s family had a bean curd shop and the product quality attracted many faithful customers in Ferry Village but one unfortunate event made his family to lose their shop. Zhu’s family had to leave their place and later they had to face many struggles then to survive. A plague that swept through China destroyed livelihood and families. Now, Zhu is left alone. He joins a Buddhist monastery and is on a path to find the Ming Dynasty.

This book is written beautifully and the detailed descriptions made it a captivating one. Cover photo of the book is nice and it kept me on the edge of my seat. It’s a gripping story and you won’t be able to put down this novel once you will start reading it. I enjoyed every bit of this novel and is now looking forward to read next book by Laurie.
