Poetic Confessions written by Arilita Moore Joyner is a story of a young woman in her mid twenties looking for love as she raises her daughter Christina alone. The protagonist tried different relationships. First she met a handsome, athletic man Kurt who mostly come to Coretta for money or sex. Being a single mother managing finance for raising a daughter itself is difficult and if you get a partner who is sucking money from you, then life gets harder. Another guy is Curtis who met her online on a dating site. Curtis never revealed much details about his life to her and he often stay quiet.

Story is set in the year 2000 and seems like a diary entry. Since it is written in first person, readers could connect well with the story. Language of the book is simple and easy to understand. This book will make the readers connect to the feelings of a protagonist and her longing for a partner. Spending life alone in old days is definitely difficult. Mostly women look for emotional connection in the relationship and not just making love. There are so many poems in this book. The book gets little emotional at times. It’s a worth reading story.
