Father Divine’s Bikes is a novel by the author Steve Bassett. It is the first book in the Passaic River Trilogy. The story shows the 1945 Newark, New Jersey. Jobs were very less in the city and poverty was there among many white residents. There was mass migrations of the blacks which further affected the city.
There was great competition between two major newspapers in the city: The Morning Beacon and the Evening Clarion. Hidden behind the mastheads of the state’s two largest newspapers was a
numbers racket with teenage carrier boys on the battle lines.
Author has set the great backdrop in Newark and the setting is so amazing because Steve is Newark born. Father Divine’s Bikes is a different kind of story. It is based on unique plot. There are many characters in the story but author has introduced them very well. Language of the book is simple and easy to understand. Cover photo is amazing.
Since the book contains mature content, so it is recommended for adults.
