“Capitol in Crisis” is a riveting story written by the author Kathy Roy Johnson. Story revolves around the US Capitol that has the sub-basement. Fred Rafferty and Billy Drexler were installing electrical connections to support cogeneration allowing more efficient use of power and steam to heat and cool the Capitol. Billy is quite new to the installation. He pressed the main switch and as system wasn’t ready to handle high voltage, there was an explosion. The connecting tunnel that connects the Capitol to both the House and the Senate collapsed.

There are few survivors like Father Dan, Addie Hutchinson (who runs a shop in the US Capitol), Jim Stenson (Legislative Director for Blind Citizens United) , etc. Simone Perez is the newly-appointed Architect of the Capitol. She has to access the situation and develop a plan to rescue the survivors. She also has another difficult job i.e. briefing the press. Will Simone be able to rescue the survivors who want to go to their families soon?

Grab a copy of this page turner. Storyline is interesting and Kathy’s writing style is nice. Cover of the book is eye catchy. Title of the book couldn’t have been more appropriate. It attracted me in the first look. Story has so many characters introduced one by one but they are related to each other or the Capitol in some way or the other so it became easy to keep track of all the characters. Books with so many characters are not for me sometimes but the way Kathy has handled them is appreciated. I like her writing and in future I am definitely interested to read more of her work.

“In Loving Memory” written by the author Daniel Paul Singh is a thriller, romance and murder mystery novel. The story started with two colleagues Dhruv and Nisha who became friends by chatting on organization’s social media platform. Soon, Nisha started getting threatening calls at night. Dhruv who initially played a prank with Nisha put her life in danger.

On the other hand, a story of Rimi and Nivas run in parallel. They are school buddies. The trick that Rimi played on Nivas isn’t appreciated. Soon, a romance turns into mysterious deaths. Is it a murder or a suicide?

Language of the book is lucid so one could understand it easily. Cover photo of the book is eye catchy. Title of the book couldn’t have been more appropriate. Narration is smooth and strong. I enjoyed reading this story. Plot of the story is amazing and worth reading.

“The Surprising Gift of Doubt” is a self-help book written by the author Marc A Pitman. This book will help the readers to shed their doubt so they can become the exceptional leader they are meant to be. Author has talked about listening and trusting our inner nudges. Leadership involves four stages of development and most people make only to the first two stages.

Self-doubt is a part of the leadership journey. Leaders who acknowledge their self-doubt have the courage to go beyond Quadrant 2. Marc has also talked about three parts that make up the hardwiring triad of behavior, abilities, and motivation. “Realizing the benefits of your ability” chapter is really helpful.

In our path of leadership we are not alone. Author who is a leadership coach has guided the readers well in this book. I have mentioned few important points from this book in my journal for quick reference. This book has inspired me to walk on a journey from doubt to confidence. It is an engaging and thought provoking read. If you are looking to become a confident leader then go ahead with this book.

Colour Coded: The Black Bullet is the first book that I have read by Katy Jordan. Story is set in Scotland. Black Bullet used to work for Neon at Prismatic. She was Neon’s go to to sort all his problems but she got nothing in return as was promised by Neon. So, Bullet left Prismatic and she took some others with her to form Colour Coded.

Neon had given the responsibility to Jack to kidnap and fortune Flare until she reveals where is Bullet. Neon either wants Bullet back or he wants her dead. After three days of torture and malnutrition, Flare managed to escape and called Colour Coded for help. Why Neon has spread rumors about the downfall of Black Bullet? Find out yourself by reading this novel.

Storyline is unique and interesting. When I read the title initially, I wasn’t able to understand what the book is about. But after reading the story, the title makes all sense to me. Language of the book is lucid so readers could understand it easily. Book need a little formatting and editing however. Story is intriguing with a great plot to keep you hooked to it.

I love reading gothic horror stories. Recently I read the debut novel Ungodly written by the author Braedon Riddick. Story is set at Calisade Mountain College. It started with the weird behavior of Elden Apjaw. A mini mart convenience store owner Jake explained his customer the reason behind Elden’s strange behavior. One day, Elden received a call from his wife saying that she has aborted their child and she is now free from him. She also told that Elden will never be able to find her.

This affected Elden a lot. He had not even seen the face of his little boy and he was killed before he even made to this world. 5 years later, Elden saw a boy standing in the dark doorway of an abandoned dormitory tower. The little boy told him that he was waiting for him and he even called Elden Daddy. Flashback of what happened 5 years back ran into his mind.

The plot of the story is well written. I am glad that the title of this novel is Ungodly and not unpublished. Author’s writing skills are amazing and he had taken the right step to bring this novel to the readers. Cover of the book is nice. Plot is spooky. If you love horror stories then you could go ahead with this one. I enjoyed reading it and at the same time I was little scared as I read it at night time. I am interested to read more of author’s work in the future.

Preparing A Fruitful Harvest is an interesting book written by the author Autumn P Prather. Raising a daughter is not an easy job and in this book, author has shared her experience of raising a daughter. Author has shared the idea of being a helicopter mom in which children understand that mother’s ultimate goal is to protect her kids.

I appreciate the way author has prepared her daughter by sharing about menstruation with her. I feel every girl should know about it in advance. I remember my friend telling me how she wasn’t aware about it and she panicked when she had periods for the first time. Mothers will be glad to read about the ABCD of motherhood from this book.

I liked the concept of family password. Many parents know about this concept but they are too lazy/busy to talk about it to their kids. There are some thought provoking questions and activities given in the book that will help mothers to become more aware of the motherhood journey.

Written in a simple language, this book is a perfect guide that will help mother in raising a child especially a daughter. Don’t miss to pick this book.

The Redcap (A Sam McKay novel) is an intense thriller written by the author K.M. Hardy. Murder of a rich woman Annabelle Matheson had turned into a cold case as Chicago PD didn’t find any clue on the case. So, Edward White asked Director Cooper to look into it. Cooper sent Sampson Angus McKay and his team to investigate the murder case.

Sam’s team thought that it would be a very simple task for them but events began to unfold as they started working on the case. During the investigation, will Sam’s team find a clue that the previous investigators overlooked?

This is an intense thriller and I loved the way how things unfolded. Hardy’s writing style is amazing and the way she gave twists and turns in the story is appreciated. Storyline is very captivating and it kept me on the edge of my seat. If you are into reading murder mystery novels then this one you shouldn’t miss at all.

“The loneliest minute of the day is the one after a Zoom call; when you click Leave
and wonder where the world went. But life rushes back in the room and reminds you it’s not so bad. At least you don’t have to wear a bra. Or brush your hair (because your camera is always off now) which is lucky because you haven’t seen your hairbrush in days”.

The above lines are from WFH WTF. I could totally relate to this especially the lonely moment after the zoom calls. “If you could have anything this year, what would you want?” is also my favorite from the collection.

Author has done great work in her debut book. Some of the poems are left aligned whereas others are right aligned. Language of the poems are easy to understand. Cover photo could have been more attractive. If you love reading poetry then go ahead with this book.
