“Like the Wind I Go: A memoir of Iran, America, my struggle to freedom” is penned by the author Vahid Imani. In this book, he tells his story of how he was stuck in his own homeland Iran and how he desired to move to America for freedom.

Iran was an unstable place to live during the late 1900s. People wanted to attain freedom from the shah, the king-dictator. Many people attempted to have a democratic system of government but they all failed. Deaths and disappearances of friends and relatives were common at that time.

During his high school years, Vahid realized that he wanted to live his adult life in the West. When Vahid wanted to go to America, people started calling him West-toxicated. Vahid was advised by Farhad that he should stay in Iran as the country needs people like him but Vahid told him how he doesn’t want to hold military weapons just to end up dead. Even during peaceful demonstrations, ordinary citizens were killed by the soldiers. So, Vahid wants a life free from limitation and paranoia.

Lifelines penned by the author Shireen Magedin takes the readers on the journey of Tanya and Sarah. Sarah Shahzad Shah is a seventeen years old girl who moved to a small town called Nawabshah where she was admitted to the College of Medical Sciences for Women.

Tanya Kareem was recently promoted to inspector but when she received her posting orders to Nawabshah, she wasn’t very happy since it was an out of the way town. When Sarah’s bus stops at the gate of the college, her eyes meet those of the beautiful inspector Tanya. Both of them feel a strong connection between them. But it’s only when Sarah sees the body of a homeless man and was compelled by supernatural perception to look for the family of the deceased to get him a decent burial and closure for the family, that she meets inspector Tanya properly for the first time. Inspector Tanya was called at the time to arrange the legalities and to record the statements of Sarah and other people involved. It was strange and very unusual that they would feel a strong attraction to each other every time they met during the course of the events in the book.

Threadbare is the debut poetry book of the author Adanna Moriarty.

In this poetry book, Adanna takes readers to different stages of her life. She is inspiring others to rise from the dark and brighten the world around them. Below lines are my favorite from the poem “Forever in the mist”:

I am the dreamer.
The achiever.
The observer.
The outsider.
The non-conformist / Who must conform.
The believer.
The unbalanced / Who balances others.
I am the savior.
The healer / The advice giver.
Outside looking in.
Apart even when together.
Behind even when forward.

This poetry book takes readers on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I love reading poems that have been woven into a memoir. I am grateful to Adanna for giving us a chance to sneak peak into her inner and outer world.

Writing style of the author is nice. Language used in the poems is easy to understand. Even if you are not an avid poetry reader, you would be able to understand these poems easily. Cover photo of the book is nice. I enjoyed reading this collection. Like to recommend it to poetry lovers.
