Strangers With Known Faces by Gautam Dutta

Book: Strangers With Known Faces

Author: Gautam Dutta

Language: English

Rating: 4/5

Strangers With Known Faces is a tale of five friends. The story starts with the murder of Shanaya Mishra in 2030 and the suspects were her friends Rajat, Amol, Sadda and Meenakshi. They were investigated and asked about Shanaya and the time they spent with her during college days.

Since CBI couldn’t find any solid proof against the four friends, it can’t do anything. Rajat and Meenakshi on the other hand, started doing investigation on their own. When Rajat’s name was highlighted in news for land deals, all evidences pointed to him making him the culprit. Is Rajat really behind the murder of Shanaya?

Grab a copy of this book to know all the mystery behind Shanaya’s death. The story is intriguing with so many twists and turns. You wouldn’t want to put it down until you finish it. Book needs to be formatted properly. I suggest this to beginners who love reading murder mystery.

Interview with author Kristen Keenon Fisher

1. Please introduce yourself so that the readers will get to know you better.

I am Kristen Keenon Fisher, author of the The Quantum Cartographer, which was my debut novel and a “distinguished favorite” in the New York City Big Book Awards. I am from the Eastern Shore of Virginia and I studied audio engineering and graphic design in Rockville, Maryland.

2. What inspired you to start writing?

Well I’ve always written short stories and poetry for as long as I can remember. The inspiration for a novel came from a challenge to myself. I once told myself that I could never write a novel. It was too complex, too involved. I could never do that. So one day I decided to prove myself wrong. I dared myself to write a novel. I made a deal with myself to finish no matter what. I wouldn’t give in to any doubts I had or excuses, I was just going to take my time and persist. I started having a lot of dreams at that time to. They were random but very vividdepictions of people, places and events. I used a lot of the details from the dreams in the story.

3. What do you hope your readers take away from your book “The Quantum Cartographer”?

I hope they see The Quantum Cartographer as an intriguing journey with many interesting and thought provoking destinations along the way. I want it to be something you read and then read again to catch all the synchronicities and moving parts. I hope they find it to be more than just another tale of time travel and discover deeper themes and ideology. The Quantum Cartographer is a journey for your mind.

4. What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

When I’m not writing I enjoy anything inspirational. I enjoy, gaming, reading, meditating, drawing. I’m just obsessed with art and creativity and being inspired to create things that might inspire someone else to create something.

5. Have you ever seen a time machine? Do you actually believe that it works?

I have never seen a functional time machine but I do believe the technology is possible. Rumor has it that Nikola Tesla invented one. It was one of the ideas posed as the catalyst for the “Mandela effect,” which was the name given to the growing phenomena of multiple groups of people from all around the world who remember certain historical events happening differently. Theoretically to time travel successfully, you would need to travel faster than the speed of light. And in the phenomena of black holes, light is actually slowed down tremendously. So, if you could somehow manage to harness the power of a black hole you could conceivably create a time machine. Easy.

6. What is your favorite Quote?

“The opposite of an idea is the absence of the idea itself. Absence is the absence of justice. Presence is the absence of absence.” —Unknown

7. What are you working on next? Are you planning to release another book soon?

I am currently working on a second novel as a matter of fact. It will be set in a colorful, beautifully rendered, and foul mouthed alternate universe.I would say expect to see it maybe late this year or early next year. The only thing I can say about it is … There will be machines.

8. Which is your favorite Time Travel fantasy book?

My favorite time travel story is “All You Zombies” Robert A. Heinlein, which was adapted into a movie in 2014 called Predestination. The paradoxes created in the story are mind-blowing. I don’t want to give away too much about it in case there’s someone reading this who hasn’t read the book, or seen “Predestination” which was a film released in 2014 that was based on the short story by Heinlein, but it was definitely one the most magical efforts of storytelling I’ve ever witnessed.

9. How do you come up with the idea to write a science fiction involving time travel?

The idea of time travel has always fascinated me. And with storytelling you can do some really interesting things with it and create what I feel is a “beautiful conflict” within the reader, wherein the sequence of events becomes entirely distorted. If past events influence the future and future events influence the past in this seemingly never-ending loop, which came first? Is time itself really just an illusion and do our actions as transient beings cause ripples not only in the future but the past as well? And in the case of reincarnation, what if your next life wasn’t in the future at all? What if a soul could reincarnate into the distant past? I wanted to explore these ideas and many others.

10. Lastly, do you want to give any advice to your readers and aspiring writers?

Keep writing. I think we have a tendency as writers to feel as if we have to have it all planned out and write the greatest story ever told on the first draft or we have some form of writers block. But in fact, writing can be more akin to an excavation process rather than a performance art. We have the luxury of doing “not quite the right thing” and editing and perfecting until it is the right thing.

The book is written in a narrative manner. The illustrations are colorful and made the story much more interesting. I recommend kids to read this book and enhance their Knowledge on the Sun, the moon and the stars.

Stuck (In Time) by Dave Johnson

Book: Stuck (In Time)

Author: Dave Johnson

Language: English

Rating: 5/5

I love reading Science Fantasy that involves time travel. Stuck (In Time) is a mix of Sci-fi and history. The protagonist of the story are three kids: James, Robert and Lucy. During their Easter holiday, they went to their Uncle Archie in Cambridge.

One night James found that he is invincible. He told his brother Robert about it but Robert pushed him away thinking that James must be playing a prank on him. In the morning, James told his siblings that he is not kidding and he is seriously invisible.

Kids thought that they will tell about this only to Uncle Archie. They went to his secret office in search of him but to their surprise they saw a time machine. They cracked key codes and found that Uncle Archie has travelled to the past in 1940s and stuck there now. Will the siblings be able to save their Uncle Archie and their brother?

This is the first book in the Stuck Series. With an intriguing story, I can’t put the book down until I finish it. There are so many mysteries to be solved and this would be a perfect pick by children and YA for an enjoyable read. I recommend this book to Sci-fi lovers.

Book: The Threat Below

Author: J.S. Latshaw

Format: Paperback

Rating: 4.5/5

The Threat Below is a YA fantasy novel by the author J.S. Latshaw. The protagonist of the story is Icelyn Brathius, daughter of the head of the Mountain Top. Her relationship with her childhood bestie Adorane Hailgard was much more than just friendship. One day, they both went beyond the wall but whatever they witnessed there, made them to run back to the mountaintop.

Things started to turn upside down when the people of Mountaintop found the water contaminated. What they will do now to survive? The way storyline is built up is highly impressive. The twists and turns in the story made it more interesting. It was a long read so I finished it in multiple sittings but it is definitely worth my time.

Highly recommended for apocalyptic dystopian fans. The title of the book is apt and is well related to the story. Gonna pick the next book “A Gallery Of Mothers”.

Livy’s parents told her that grown-ups also do wrong things, they also fail. So, she should not worry too much. What matters is that we should keep on trying even if we fail.

This is a very short and quick read. I enjoyed reading this book. It is helping children to learn while having fun. We should be just ourselves. We should BE KIND, BE BRAVE, etc. Millie Bicknelle as an illustrator has done great job. Overall it’s a nice book for children.

Traveller Inceptio by Rob Shackleford

Traveller Inceptio is a mind blowing time travel novel that revolves around the concept of accidental discovery of a time machine i.e. Transporter. Upon its discovery, travellers were given the needed training to go 1000 years back in time to Saxon England. The way travellers discovered that they need more than technology to survive the trials of early 11th-century life was gripping.

Traveller Inceptio is different as compared to other normal time travel reads. The twists and turns will hook you to the story more. It is not only just about time travelling but it has history added to it.

The plot and the story moving back and forth made it interesting. The character development is strong. Phil and Yeti played a great role especially about their involvement with the time machine. The last few pages are really interesting. Pace of the novel was fast enough to hook the readers.. Overall it was an interesting read that one should pick up surely.
