A knife’s Edge by author Eliot Parker

Book: A Knife’s Edge

Author: Eliot Parker

Available On: Amazon

Language: English

Rating: 5/5

I love reading thrillers. Recently I read “A Knife’s Edge” written by Eliot Parker, West Virginia author. Story is set in Charleston, West Virginia. Main character of the story is Sergeant Ronan McCullough. His boyfriend Ty Andino works as an emergency room charge nurse. One day, when Ronan was injured and was taken to the emergency room, his eyes fell on Ty. Since then, Ronan went to ER multiple times and asked out Ty.

Ronan surprised Ty by visiting at the reception of Children’s Cancer Center in a police uniform. Ty has invited his friend Sarah Gilmore as a date to the event. Ty was looking for Sarah when a vehicle slammed into the building and took some of the lives. Later, inside a vehicle a driver was found who was shot in the head and Sarah’s butchered body was found in the trunk. As the investigation begins, secrets unfolded about Sarah’s life. She was working for the Btech Company who will be handling all crime lab work for Charleston PD.

Twists and turns in the story made it more interesting. Pace of the story is fine and kept me hooked from the beginning. I kept on turning pages after pages without putting it down. It is a LGBTQ themed novel. Ty and Ronan’s concern for each other was amazing to read about. If you are into thrillers then I like to strongly recommend this one to you. Curiously looking forward to read more of Elliot’s work.

Shadow Cult is the second book in the Soul of Sorrows series. Bene, the main character was a human guard captain of the Princess of Preju, Devani in ‘The Suffering’. Then he was turned into a wraith in ‘The Dark Archer’. In the Shadow Cult book, the Shadow Cult who created Bene are increasing their evil power. Their goal is not known to Bene yet but he could feel this growing evil power.

Before this power grow more, Bene wanted to destroy it and save the world. An army is seeking the world trees to grew in power. Bene, a wraith knew that world is full of good, twisted and horrifying magic. He could feel the presence when someone is around him whether its dark or not.

Story has different characters: wraith, dark characters, humanoids grotesque creatures, etc. This book has much in store for the readers considering its length. I have read dark fantasies earlier also but Robert’s stories involving a wraith is a new to me. Bene’s character I had liked from the beginning of the series. The storyline is interesting. Book cover is very attractive.

This book has great ingredients for the readers of dark fantasy genre.

Tamonten Tusks: Four Heavenly Kings written by the author Ivan Wain is an interesting story about four special elephants. Kintaro, Yuki-Onna
(Yuki), Nakano (Takeko) and Issun Boshi (Bosh) are special elephants who have special powers given by the God of Savanna Narok. Story starts with introduction of Issun Bushi, how his mother was shot by the poachers and Bosh was raised by foster parents till a certain age. He was then handed over to Narok as his special powers will be helpful in completing a quest.

Kintaro another important character was born albino and was considered senior in group because of his wisdom and strength. Nakano at a tender age ran to save her life but was captured in a cage. Yuki considered it as her duty to protect endangered species. Her mother has taught her so many things. The Suffering by the author Robert Cano is a dark fantasy. It is the first novella in Soul of Sorrows trilogy. The Satyrs and Fae are kin. But they have been in war since years in Devani’s kingdom so she was sent to another kingdom where the king and the queen were supposed to treat her kindly but the kingdom was so inhospitable and it had become more terror than caregiver.

Devani is now returning to her home after years. She is hungry, thirsty and energyless. The guard captain Bene placed her in the boat and drawn the attackers away. Devani was supposed to directly go to her home but on the way she needed something to eat. Also, the arrow that attacked her made her blood to flow. When she was looking for a warm shelter, she passed out and she was taken care by Chiron, the horse-body-human-torso people. Hel’ket and his father Ha’kek told Devani that it would take at least months travel for her to reach her home.

Story is interesting and nicely written. Language of the book is simple. Cover photo of the book is nice. Since it’s a novella, one could read it in a single sitting. World building is nice with a smooth narration. Index given at the end of the book helped in understanding few terms. After reading this book, I am much curious to read The Dark Archer.

The Adventures Of Bearwolf by author D.C.R James

Book: The Adventures Of Bearwolf

Author: D.C.R James

Available On: Amazon

Language: English

Rating: 5/5

The Adventures of Bearwolf by D.C.R. James is a collection of seven bedtime stories that I enjoyed right from the first page. First story is about a Bearwolf and a Fidget. A Fidget went to explore around. She found a Predictascope. She returned and told Bearwolf what she saw. Then both Bearwolf and fidget left a note at their door and went down to the beach. Find out what a Bearwolf will learn there.

My favourite story is Professor Yessir’s Birthday Machine in which Fidget and Bearwolf didn’t receive the invite. Find out yourself by reading the story will they go to the party.

This book is recommended for kids of age 5+. Since the stories are written in a rhyming fashion, kids will have more fun while reading it. Beautiful character illustrations will help them to understand the characters better. Glossary at the end would have been helpful for the kids.

I recommend this book to parents so they can narrate the stories to their kids and enjoy great storytime together.

Things That Women Do

Interview with author Samantha Gillespie

Q1.  Hello Ma’am, can you please introduce yourself? Readers would love to know more about you.

Hi! I’m a Young Adult author who loves period pieces and all things Pride & Prejudice. I’m a die hard cat lover, and I can never say no to a cup of good coffee.

Q2. What were the key challenges you faced while writing ‘The Kingdom Within’ book?

I work a full-time office job so my biggest challenge is finding the time to write, especially because my writing process is very slow. Scenes marinate in my head as I write them, so I don’t get as much done in an 8-hour window as most writers do.

Q3. What books or authors have most influenced your own writing?

Laini Taylor & Julie Kagawa – they write stories and characters that stay with me.

Q4. What’s your favourite spot to visit in your own country? And what makes it so special to you?

Libby, Montana. It’s this quaint little town up in the mountains, near Kootenai Falls. It’s the perfect place to break away from the city life and remind oneself of nature’s beauty. The air is crisp and pine-scented, and only bird chirps and songs break through the peaceful quiet; I’ve always dreamed about writing my novels in a lake cabin up there.

Q5. Is there lots to do before you dive in and start writing a book?

Yes! I first work on the story’s major plot points, which works as a general roadmap, and then I write out a summary of each scene.

Q6. How long did it take you to write ‘The Lost Throne’ book?

About two years.

Q7. On what all platforms readers can find your books to buy?

Amazon, Audible, Google Books, Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, & Smashwords.

Q8. Tell us about the process of coming up with the cover and the title of your books?

I always had a very specific idea of what I wanted the covers to look like. What you see is what I originally envisioned. Book one’s title came to me in a lightbulb moment after playing with ideas for a few days. The titles for book two and three were a little easier to come up with, as they both relate to their pertaining stories.

Q9. When writing a book how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

I don’t force myself to write when my creativity muscle isn’t working. My writing quality drops tremendously when I’m not inspired to write, which is very frustrating as my time to write is so limited, but I’ve learned to accept it as part of my writing process.

Q10. Are there any secrets from the books (that aren’t in the blurb), you can share with your readers?

A majority of the third book takes place in a different kingdom from those in book one & two.
