Rating: 4.5/5

Sea of Forgetfulness is the third book in the Father of Contention series by Lanie Mores. Fiery, bull-headed, attention-seeking, selfish Ronnie is in labour pain. Ang and Anthony are there to support her. Ronnie is at The Thunder Bay District Hospital where the family is worried whether the baby will be normal or not. Baby girl was delivered through operation and was perfectly healthy and beautiful.

When Ang asked Ronnie what gonna be the baby’s name, Ronnie made it clear that she has nothing to do with her. Ang and Anthony became the guardian of the baby Daniela. Dani as she grew up realized that she has some supernatural powers. She also found out about her biological parents. Ang didn’t want to discuss about Tomas and Renner with Dani as it can affect her negatively.

There is nothing that I disliked about this book. Pace of the story is fine and the story is written nicely. Lanie is very creative in the way she has described each and every character. Ang is one of my favorite from the beginning of the series. The twists in the story made it more interesting and I binge read it on weekend. I am so impressed with Lanie’s writing that I will be interested to read more of her work in the future.

“Unlimited
power shall be granted by the wearer of this ring, but the magic will not wound one who bears fiery
brass wings. The Lord of the Black Moon’s legion shall die from the Fate Breaker’s fury.”

Mercenaries of Destiny is a great fantasy story written by the author Daniel Cano. Darvell Letholdus is a mercenary. He received a letter from the Visionaries (an organization of peacekeepers) to meet them. When Darvell reached at the meeting place, he was given a mission to overthrow Emperor Zlo from his throne. Zlo wears an enchanted ring that keeps him alive. Darvell was given a liquid by the visionary. When he was on his way and he opened the flask to drink the liquid, he saw a ghostly man who was his father Marius.

When Zlo discovered that he could be killed by brass wings dragon, he started to killed all full-blooded dragons but Zlo was unaware that half-dragons are also dangerous for him. Darvell was born with two bumps on his back that are his wings. He wants to take revenge from Zlo who is the murderer of his father. What challenges lies in this mission of Darvell?

This is a wonderful story involving a part-dragon. Daniel has build a great world in this fantasy novel. I really appreciate his vivid imagination. Cover photo of the book is nice and the title is suitable. This is a great story that has the power to hook the readers from the first page. Although story is bit lengthy but it is worth reading. The Battle For Trimera is the first book in The Ruling Priestess series written by the author Tanya S. M. Kennedy. This is a story involving fascinating creatures grinlo. They are the strange creatures with low intelligence but incredible strength. A man named Neram had taken control of a grinlo.

Story started with Pria’s parents death. Her brother Janu who is fourteen years old is a heir and Pria was declared High Priestess (a person of great magical talent born to rule) when she was born. Janu’s friend Mian is always there for Pria. He could even die for her if he has to. High Priestess Lana is stressing so Pria could be sent to Lorien to learn her power. Follow the story as Pria go to Lorien for the training. Also, the romance between Mian and Pria made the story more intense.

Interview with author Megan Sotelo

Book: Late Night Might As Well Be Drunk Writing

Q1. Hello Ma’am, can you please introduce yourself? Readers would love to know more about you.

Yes, I am from Dallas, Texas. I got my Bachelor’s degree in Literary Studies from the University of Texas at Dallas, but now work in the education field and hold my Master’s in Educational Administration from Tarleton State University. However, I still love writing and do it in my free time. I also advise for my sorority, Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc.

Q2. What were the key challenges you faced while writing ‘Late Night Might As Well Be Drunk Writing’ book?

I struggled a lot with the content and whether it was too mature to publish. There are a lot of explicit words and mature topics included and because I put a lot of my own emotions in my main character, at times I became very hesitant to publish the book.

Q3. What books or authors have most influenced your own writing?

Before I started writing the book, I read a book called “Constantly Constance” which is written in blog format. This inspired me to also write a book this way, so in this book, my main character is writing to her fanbase through a blog. I like the way it flows and how much of the her voice you can hear in her writing. Another book that influenced my writing is Stephen King’s “On Writing”. One big takeaway for me was to not be afraid to be explicit and just express yourself the way you need to. It gave me the push I needed to publish this book without cutting a lot of the mature content.

Q4. What’s your favourite spot to visit in your own country? And what makes it so special to you?

I’ve only been a couple of times, but I fell in love with New Orleans when I first went to visit. It has a very rich and unique history and culture. As a foodie, it’s also a lot of fun for me to try all the restaurants when I go.

Q5. Is there lots to do before you drive in and start writing a book?

No, normally when I get an idea, I just start writing immediately with very little planning. I have a horrible habit of not outlining my books before diving into them. It makes the process a lot of fun for me, but I do have to go back through and clean up a lot of plot holes and make sure the timeline of the story runs smoothly. I’m sure there are a few plot holes I missed (lol).

Q6. How long did it take you to write ‘Late Night Might As Well Be Drunk Writing’ book?

It took me about seven years to complete. I started writing the book while I was in college and took a break while I was starting my career and going to graduate school. Right before everything shut down due to COVID, I joked that if I had one more week at home I could finally finish. I ended up finishing the book during the first week of quarantine and spent the following months editing and putting the finishing touches on it.

Q7. On what all platforms readers can find ‘Late Night Might As Well Be Drunk Writing’ book to buy?

Late Night Might As Well Be Drunk Writing is currently available through Barnes and Noble and Amazon. The audio version will be out by early 2021 and will be available through Amazon, Audible, and iTunes.

Q8. Tell us about the process of coming up with the book cover and the title ‘Late Night Might As Well Be Drunk Writing’?

I think the title is funny. I originally wrote a lot of the entries as a way to vent and explore my feelings, which often occurs late at night when I was so tired I almost felt drunk. It was a working title that I put as a joke. One of my friends actually liked the title, so I stuck with it. I worked with a friend and colleague of mine, DeMarcus Tucker, who took my very vague cover idea and turned it into a beautiful cover. I love it because it grasps the tone of the book and the juxtaposition of trying to work diligently under pressure while trying to hold onto your sanity.

Q9. When writing a book how do you keep things fresh, for both your readers and also yourself?

When I’m writing, I like to harness how I’m feeling and pour that into my protagonists. As I learn and experience new things, my perspectives and feelings often change, so in many ways my characters mature as I do.

Q10. Are there any secrets from the book (that aren’t in the blurb), you can share with your readers?

Since this book was so personal and special to me, I took some of my interest and made them interests of Leyna as well. They’re small details, so I think of them as little “Easter eggs”. People can stumble upon them and see the parts of me that I hid in the story.

Rating: 4.5/5

A Dance of Darkness is a fantasy novel written by the author Pepijn Westdijk. It is the first book in the Songs of War series. Story started with Naka, an Ilunari killing many people and burning their corpses. When she went to the trading village, she heard from the traders about the death of Varne, the King of the Shadow Lands. Varne’s son Xere has been crowned as the new king.

Opposition of the Shadow Lands is the Shining Lands whose ruler is King Egil. King Egil thought that after the death of Varne, it would be easy to defeat the Shadow Lands but he forgot that Xere is there even before the war. After Varne’s death, Naka is being invited to the Dark Palace by King Xere. Naka was given a task long ago and it is time for Naka to complete that task. Some people are chasing her, will she be able to outrun them and save her life?

This is an intriguing story. I have to re-read few pages in the beginning to understand the base of the story but once I got the base, story went smooth then. If you are interested in reading stories about Kings, evil and the war then this would be a perfect pick. Cover photo of the book is nice and the language is lucid. I enjoyed each and every bit of this story. Glossary was too helpful to understand more about the world building and the characters. Recommended to fantasy readers.

Rating: 4.5/5

My love for fantasy stories started from Harry Potter. Since then, I have read so many fantasy stories. Daredevil Dreams by Karthick Hemabushanam is a fantasy story set in the city of Chennai. A ten years old boy Arjun was playing a computer game at his friend, Disha’s house. When he started the game, a gaunt-looking man started speaking to Arjun.

He is actually a ghost Patrick Jordon. He informed Arjun that he is born to rule the world. Arjun is unaware that he has the power to travel anywhere he wants without being seen by others. Patrick pulled Arjun inside the computer screen so he can show him what is happening in the world.

Patrick and Arjun both went to the first crime scene where the murder was about to take place. Arjun was scared to be there and wanted to go home to his mother but Patrick insisted him to stay and watch. Even though Arjun wanted to save the victim but he couldn’t do anything and Arjun witnessed first murder happening in front of him. His duty was just to witness. At home, Arjun’s parents had panicked not finding him in his room.

It was an easy-peasy read that I was enthralled to read about. Narration of the story is smooth. Language is lucid and cover photo is well designed showing Arjun being grabbed by the ghost Patrick. Plot of the story is intense and writing style of Karthick is impressive. It is a middle grade fantasy story that teenagers and adults both can enjoy.
