Seed of Power, the second installment in the Dark Pilgrim series expands its universe with gripping intensity, political intrigue, and emotional depth. Picking up after the escape from the brutal penal colony of K’ar Krack’a, the novel follows Ailanthus, Tethys, and their companions as they struggle to survive in a galaxy that proves no less dangerous than the prison they left behind.

The richly layered world-building in this book is impressive. Ubtrent paints a harsh dystopian future where corruption, greed, and betrayal dominate nearly every corner of society. The tension between the Church of the Blessed Prophets and the weakening Imperium creates a fascinating political backdrop, while conflicts between alien races and power-hungry individuals add further complexity to the story.

Familiar characters evolve naturally as they face difficult choices, and new additions to the cast bring fresh perspectives to the narrative. Despite the darkness that permeates the novel, moments of loyalty, bravery, and honesty shine brightly, giving the story heart and humanity.

Seed of Power leaves readers eager to continue the journey into the next chapter of this captivating series. The book is well paced and I enjoyed every bit of it.
